A British multinational bank, with global operations in wealth management, corporate and investment banking, and treasury services, launched an ambitious initiative through its internal startup incubator to help users get more value from their credit cards. The goal was to build a mobile-first application capable of surfacing relevant card-linked deals based on user location, all while delivering a seamless, secure, and scalable user experience.
The challenge was to support a rapidly growing digital product with high expectations around code quality, modularity, and speed of delivery. After launching an initial MVP in January 2020 and a beta version in April 2021, the client sought a trusted technology partner to bring the product to full maturity. VISEO was engaged to strengthen the internal team and accelerate the application’s development in the lead-up to its official launch in March 2022.
To meet the demand, VISEO mobilized a dedicated offshore team comprising two full-stack developers, one QA tester, and one data analyst. Working in close collaboration with the client’s teams, the project followed agile SCRUM methodology, enabling iterative delivery and continuous improvement throughout the development lifecycle.
The tech stack included React Native and TypeScript for a high-performance mobile experience, Python and AWS microservices for a robust backend, Stripe for seamless payment integration, and Amazon QuickSight for advanced analytics. The team progressively built up the application’s capabilities, from core functionalities to more complex features such as geo-tracking, authentication layers, and real-time data visualization.
Throughout the project, VISEO emphasized reusable code, secure architecture, and rigorous QA processes. An aggressive proof-of-concept and trial-and-error approach enabled rapid experimentation while ensuring code remained clean, secure, and scalable. As the product matured, the development team scaled up in line with the growing backlog, adapting dynamically to changing requirements.
By January 2022, the app had already achieved significant traction, reaching 300,000 downloads—equivalent to around 6 percent of Singapore’s population. The app’s merchant ecosystem also expanded quickly, with more than 4,000 merchants onboarded and actively promoting offers to users based on their credit card type and physical location.
The application’s success demonstrated not only the strength of the idea but also the value of VISEO’s agile and collaborative delivery model. By combining deep technical expertise with adaptability and customer-centric thinking, VISEO helped transform a promising concept into a mature, high-impact fintech solution embraced by thousands across Singapore.
The app’s impressive market penetration aligns with broader trends in Singapore’s digital landscape. According to the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), mobile app usage in Singapore has surged, with smartphone adoption reaching 94% among residents . This high level of mobile engagement underscores the importance of mobile-first strategies in the region.
Furthermore, Singapore boasts one of the highest credit card penetration rates in Asia, with nearly every adult possessing at least one card . This widespread usage presents a significant opportunity for applications that help consumers maximize their credit card benefits through personalized deals and offers.
The integration of geo-tracking features in the app taps into the growing demand for location-based services. A report by Pew Research Center indicates that 74% of adult smartphone owners use their devices to obtain location-based information . By leveraging geo-tracking, the app enhances user experience by providing timely and relevant deals based on the user’s current location.
In the realm of digital payments, the app’s use of Stripe for payment processing aligns with the increasing adoption of digital wallets and online payment methods in Singapore. A study by Yahoo Finance projects that digital wallets are expected to overtake credit cards as the most popular online payment method in Singapore by 2026 .
By aligning the app’s development with prevailing digital trends and consumer behaviors in Singapore, VISEO and the client successfully delivered a solution that meets the evolving needs of modern consumers. The app’s rapid adoption and positive reception reflect its strategic fit within Singapore’s dynamic digital ecosystem.
