Spurred by ambitious corporate goals and a mandate for monthly financial reporting, the company adopted Anaplan, transforming its financial reporting process, reducing manual work, and enabling leaders to make high-impact decisions.

“All the stakeholders — particularly those in finance — are more focused on strategic planning than they were before we had Anaplan,” said Mohamad Lili, Deputy Department Manager of IT at Ajinomoto Indonesia.

Globally, Ajinomoto companies share two key goals: increasing the healthy life expectancy of one billion people and minimizing environmental impact. Achieving these goals requires financial discipline, and Ajinomoto Indonesia delivers monthly financial reports. Previously, the process relied on complex, manual spreadsheets, which hindered efficiency.

The challenge

“Monthly reporting would have been impossible with our old systems,” Lili recalls. To meet the new reporting demands, the finance team sought out new technology and chose Anaplan.

The solution: data and users throughout the business

Ajinomoto Indonesia built a financial budgeting and forecasting solution using Anaplan, which allowed the team to quickly create and test multiple scenarios. The solution integrated data from various sources, including SAP ERP, CRM systems, and specialized information like marketing plans, delivery data, and product BOMs.

The platform was made available to users across departments—finance, production planning, logistics, marketing, sales, and management.

Achievements unveiled

The Anaplan solution met its primary objective of increasing financial reporting frequency while enabling real-time adjustments. It eliminated the need for annual spreadsheets entirely.

“Our finance team now handles seamless planning in one platform,” said Lili. All necessary information resides in Anaplan, saving time previously spent compiling spreadsheets manually. Improved data accuracy also reduced human error in planning cycles. Other benefits included better collaboration between teams, consolidated data for quicker planning, and the elimination of overhead required for storing monthly spreadsheet versions.

The outcome

Building on the success of its finance solution, Ajinomoto Indonesia later implemented a Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) solution. This new solution covers material purchase planning, distribution, inventory optimization, and scheduling. Like the finance solution, all data is easily accessible to planners in Anaplan. While KPI improvements are still under review, Lili and his team believe the platform boosts productivity and enhances supply chain performance.

“All the stakeholders — particularly those in finance — are more focused on strategic planning than they were before we had Anaplan,” Lili concludes. “They used to spend time compiling and correcting data. Now, they can concentrate on strategy and overall organizational goals.”
